Development Services keeps residential friction low: plan review typically clears in three business days, straightforward repair permits are handed over the counter at the One Stop center, and a published No Permit Required list spells out what needs no paperwork at all. The homeowner door is deliberately narrow (an existing home that is your homestead, work done personally, affidavit on file), while every new-construction trade scope stays with registered contractors.

• Process. Residential plan review by DSD examiners typically takes three business days, small repair and remodel permits are issued over the counter at the One Stop center, and the department publishes a No Permit Required list of exempt general repairs, worth checking before queueing.

SAWS states the number plainly in its own quality FAQ: typical hardness runs 15 to 20 grains per gallon, the 300 mg/L midpoint on our Texas page, put there by naturally occurring calcium carbonate from the Edwards and Trinity aquifers. At that level scale is not a possibility but a schedule: heating elements, aerators and valves in San Antonio homes earn their maintenance calendar.
