What is the difference between backsiphonage and backpressure?

Backsiphonage is suction: pressure in the supply drops, from a main break or hydrant use, and water gets pulled backward. Backpressure is push: a downstream system such as a boiler or pump exceeds supply pressure and forces water back. Assemblies are rated for one or both.

Why is my backflow preventer leaking from the relief valve?
