Who licenses plumbing work in Dallas
Chapter 52 of the Dallas City Code draws the line plainly: nobody unregistered pulls a plumbing permit, and registration is reserved for companies fronted by a Responsible Master Plumber holding the current TSBPE Master credential. The city explicitly checks that credential against the state board's website rather than running exams of its own, and parallel registrations exist for the specialty layers: medical gas, residential fire sprinklers, water supply protection.

Permits & inspections in Dallas
The homestead door is real and carefully framed: Section 409 exempts work on the home you own and occupy from contractor registration, and the city's Homeowner's Permit rides on an affidavit, executed before a City of Dallas staff witness, that you will do the work yourself and accept no paid assistance. Everything still gets inspected, and a scheduling change lands June 1, 2026: plumbing and mechanical rough inspections book together as a single visit, finals likewise.

Dallas drinks from seven surface sources, the Elm Fork of the Trinity plus six reservoir lakes, and the utility's own memo puts hardness in a 120 to 155 mg/L band, and the midpoint of that band, 138 mg/L, is the figure used here. The brighter news is underground: DWU's service line inventory, filed with state regulators in 2024 and published as an online map, contains no known lead service lines, with owners asked to survey the private side.
