Cabinet water, decoded by timing:
- Wet all the time. Pressurized side: supply connectors or stop valves, the constant drip that never waits for you to run water.
- Wet only when draining. The drain assembly: trap joints, tailpiece, pop-up body or slip washers.
- Wet when the faucet runs into a dry drain test. The faucet base or its connections shedding down behind the basin.
- Slow draining. Pop-up and stopper hardware first; past the trap, it is drain-cleaning territory.
- A cracked or chipped basin. Cosmetic chips live long lives; structural cracks in china or composite leak eventually. Porcelain does not heal.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I tell a faucet leak from a drain leak?
Two tests: run the faucet with the stopper closed (dry drain), and water appearing means faucet side; then drain a full basin, and water appearing means drain assembly. Constant wetness with no water running means the pressurized supplies. Three minutes, one flashlight.
Why does the sink leak only when draining?
Because only draining loads the drain assembly: slip joints, trap washers and the pop-up body seal under flow. These are inexpensive rebuilds; the trap assembly is designed to be serviced.
Is a slow sink a fixture repair or drain cleaning?
The border is the trap: stopper and pop-up hair catches are fixture-side quick work; blockage past the trap or recurring slowdowns belong to drain cleaning. If several fixtures slow together, skip straight to the drain diagnosis.
Can a cracked sink be repaired?
Chips and surface damage can be cosmetically patched; structural cracks, especially in china basins, are replacements waiting to happen. Composite and stainless tolerate more; porcelain announces its retirement.
What does sink replacement include?
Removal, mounting the new basin, faucet and drain reconnection, new seals and caulk, and a leak test under both faucet and drain load, plus replacing tired stop valves while the cabinet is open, the cheapest moment they will ever have.
